Jewish Survivors of Latvia, Inc.:

More than 400 families worldwide belong to the association, not all are holocaust survivors, there're also people from the next generation. Once a year in november the association organises a memorial in a synagogue in New York, to remember the victims of the Nazis. Now and then they have a picnic and sometimes they hold a Purim or Hanukkah festival where they get together. Members are not only living in the USA, but also in Israel, Southafrica, Argentinia and Germany. So they publish an own newspaper, editet by Linda Feigelson: The Latvian Jewish Courier.

For many, many years now, the association supports their comrades in Latvia. There's a programme for a soup kitchen where hungry people in Riga and elsewhere in Latvia can go and eat. They support the Bikur Holim clinic, the Jewish hospital in Riga, both materially and with equipment. We also have a programme in which old, lonely surviors in Latvia are given a few weeks' holiday. The Jewsih community in Riga is also supportet.

Founded by Max Kaufmann in New York. Steven Springfield has been President of this association since 1984. Since Latvia is an independent state again, the Jewish Survivors of Latvia are engaged politically in contacts with the Latvian government to create Holocaust studies in public schools and to build memorials.

They are working together closely with their partner association in Latvia, the LEGU.
